The eli² Story

The world faces many challenges that can be solved with advanced technology and engineered systems. But the world needs engineering leaders – top decision makers – to bring forth global solutions.

The need for engineering and computer technology leaders is echoed universally by private industry, government agencies, academic institutions and engineering professional societies.

But engineering leaders aren’t born, they are developed.

In 2010, the Dean’s Advisory Board to the UCF College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) – with representatives from large and small businesses, government agencies and academia – recommended that to be competitive, CECS students need more opportunities to build professional skills beyond a degree.

With financial support from Progress Energy (now Duke Energy), the Engineering Leadership & Innovation Institute at UCF (eli²) was born.
